Leave the Lights On Privacy Policy:

1. What information do we collect?

We collect information from you when you register on our site.  In addition, we log your IP address when you comment on an article (even anonymously) or log into your existing account.

When registering on our site, you will be asked to enter a username and an email address.  You may also optionally choose to provide additional information for your profile, including optionally uploading an image to be used as an avatar. Other optional information includes your real name, location, occupation, interests, and homepage information. Your email address does not need to be verified before you can use your account.

You may visit the site anonymously and post anonymous comments to articles.  You must register an account to post new threads or replies in the forums.

We will NEVER ask for your financial information, bank account or credit card numbers, social security numbers, birthdate, or any other personal identifying information not described above. If you visit a page on this site that asks for this information, please contact the site administrator immediately. You may be the victim of a phishing attempt. (However, there is an option to donate to this site via Paypal. This transaction will be processed on the Paypal website, not on our site.)

Google, as a third party vendor, uses cookies to serve ads on your site. Google's use of the DART cookie enables it to serve ads to your users based on their visit to your sites and other sites on the Internet. Users may opt out of the use of the DART cookie by visiting the Google ad and content network privacy policy.

2. What do we use your information for?

The email address is used if you forget your password, and can also be viewed by any person who visits your profile and clicks "Contact". From time to time, and only in unforeseen circumstances, it is possible that it may be used to send you important information about this site. However, we do not currently anticipate that ever being necessary.

Any visitor to the site, including anonymous users, will be able to view your email address by accessing your profile and clicking "Contact." If you have privacy concerns regarding your email address, we recommend using an alternate email address. Although the system will allow you to use a spoof email address, please be aware that you will not be able to reset your password automatically, and other visitors will not have any way of contacting you.

Any of the information we collect from you may be used to provide other visitors with information about you, for the intention of building a sense of community. The information is publicly available on your profile. (Please note that except for your email address, all of this information is completely optional!) If you choose to upload an avatar image, it will appear on your profile and will also accompany your comments and forum replies.

Your information, whether public or private, will not be sold, exchanged, transferred, or given to any other company for any reason whatsoever, without your consent.

If you decide to subscribe to one or more of our syndicated web feeds by email, you will receive an email every time a new item is posted to that feed. This includes subscriptions to follow-up comments on articles or forum posts on which you have commented. If at any time you would like to unsubscribe from receiving future emails from a web feed to which you have subscribed, follow the instructions (always included in each email) about how to unsubscribe.

Your IP address is available only to site administrators and will not be shared publicly. Non-personally identifiable visitor information may be recorded for the sole purpose of recording web traffic to this site.
