The Body: A Wonderful Creation

Posted by admin in Organ Donation

The body is a wonderful creation. It is composed of organs that work together in complex processes in order for you to live. Though they are grouped into different systems with different functions, they interplay and damage to one organ could affect the function of others.

Man builds machines to perform tasks and to make life for humans easier. However, no matter how people try to come up and build the ultimate machine, nothing could parallel the body. The body is the best machine ever made. The human body consists of head, trunk, and extremities. Cells are the basic unit of life and by the time you become adult, your body is made up of almost 100 trillion cells. You know from anatomy that cells group together to form tissues, which group together to form organs, which in turn form organ systems, and ultimately the organism. The body is composed of the following organ systems: nervous, cardiovascular, respiratory, integumentary, digestive, musculoskeletal, endocrine, urinary, immune, and reproductive systems.

The nervous system is composed of the brain, spinal cord, and neurons. They are responsible for information processing in the body. The cardiovascular system is composed of the heart and blood vessels and its main function is to circulate blood, which transports oxygen to the different tissues. The respiratory system is composed of the respiratory tract – nose, mouth, airways, and lungs – and is responsible for ventilation and oxygenation of the body. The integumentary system is made up of the skin – the largest organ in the body. Its main function is to protect the body. The digestive system is made up of the alimentary canal, which starts from the mouth to the anus. It is responsible for supplying nutrients through breakdown of foods. Musculoskeletal is made up of muscles and bones and this system is for support and mobility of the body. The endocrine system is composed of glands that secrete hormones that regulate the body. The urinary system or excretory system is responsible for the production, storage, and elimination of urine. The immune system protects the body from illnesses. The reproductive system is composed of organs for reproduction. All these systems work hand in hand in complex processes that make humans live.
